Quercus Prototype

Hydrangea - Quercus Prototype

The first monometal throw from Hydrangea. This is the Prototype Version.

This is the Prototype version of the Quercus, and is 1 gram heavier than the official release.

Based on the Laurus, the Quercus was designed as Hydrangea's first monometal model. Using a literal secret recipe of an unknown aluminum alloy, the Quercus doesn't just give you a low-cost taste of Hydrangea's bezel-less rims, it shines from its own qualities and has a special smooth feeling that has its own advantages.

Comment from the Maker
The Quercus used the Laurus as our starting point, to develop our first monometal design. To preserve the feeling of the Laurus we left the heart of the yo-yo unchanged, then enlisted many players to help us shape the Quercus into having that perfect fit in your hand that you've come to expect from Hydrangea.

To create our first monometal, we decided to depart from the more standard aluminum alloys used in the Laurus and Ulmus. The Ulmus made use of a special coating that gives color without relying on anodization. This has widened the field of potential materials to include metals that are hard to anodize...

The Quercus uses such an alloy, lending a new set of characteristics to the yo-yo's material design. It's a perfect chance to get a taste of what Hydrangea can offer in a monometal package. We're excited for where this thread will lead us.
