CLYW - Arctic Circle 2

2012 US Champion Zach Gormley gets a refresh for his signature model, Arctic Circle.

Many popular yo-yos evolve over the years into series, each one improving upon the last in response to player feedback and changing trick styles. Either introducing slight variations to build on the strengths of its predecessor, or drawing a clear distinction from the past by being released as a completely separate model, a maker's signature series reflects the direction the sport is heading, and players and makers alike hope for those distinctive changes that noticeably improve the yo-yo's playability.

However, a new yo-yo in a series needs to stay true to its roots, or it'll break the players' expectations and just won't "feel right." This new Arctic Circle straddles a fine line. While it's a major change in specs from the original, it still maintains a fine sense of balance that fans of the original Arctic Circle are sure to appreciate.

The profile is generally unchanged from the first Arctic Circle, but the side face, weight and size have all been tweaked. One area that underwent major revision was the signature double-rim, inherited from the Chief. With such a major change, it's impressive how CLYW managed to retain the same feeling and balance, through all the other tweaks they incorporated into the Artic Circle 2. The new Artic Circle manages to feel very familiar, but still raise the RPMs even higher, emphasizing its speedy nature that much more.
